Larry Boyd
Larry Boyd was born and grew up in Beaufort County, about 15 miles east of Washington, NC, and was involved in residential building as a general contractor until retirement in the year 2000. He was co-owner of his last two building projects, both of which were unique conversions of historical buildings into apartments, being The Courtyards and Armory Pointe in Washington.
A few years after retiring he became involved with and has developed a somewhat intense passion with photography, attempting to capture and share the beauty and wonderment of nature and wildlife, along with the historical aspects of our surroundings, such as old barns, abandoned homes and relics from the years gone by.
Many of his photographic works have been published by local newspapers and his photos have also graced the cover of “Eastern Living” magazine’s 2010 Spring edition and the 2010 Fall issue as well. The magazine has also featured an article with photos, pertaining to his love and fascination with wildlife and the rural scenery of eastern North Carolina, more specifically the Lake Mattamuskeet and Pocosin Wildlife Refuge areas.
During the recently held 2010 Beaufort County Arts Council’s annual photography competition that included approximately 150 entries from eastern NC and beyond, his photographs were awarded four ribbons, which included first place in “Places” category, the Frank Sommerkamp History award, third place in “Wildlife” and honorable mention in “Landscapes“. Larry has well over 100 photos on display at Inner Banks Artisans’s Center in Washington, NC.
